Helpless

When was the last time you checked outside,
and found a stranger laid on your step?
It happened to me not long ago,
and now it's hard to forget

He didn't speak for nearly 30 days,
a virus spread through his aching body,
and soon upon that Sunday morning,
he did pass away

Chorus
As I watched that poor man dying,
I felt a tear roll down my cheek
It's strange the way that some people can touch you,
especially when they are weak
Two things became apparent,
as I watched on in dismay:
The first that I must cherish my life,
and never throw it away

He was a quiet man when he spoke,
it was a shame I hadn't known him before.
He had a particular kind of grace,
that got me asking for more

And now I sit in my freezing house
It hasn't been the same since he left.
He's taken away the warm atmosphere
and replaced it all with unrest

Chorus
