The Final Farewell

She watches from an open window,
knowing what's about to happen.
He's not aware of the inevitable,
because he's not looking

He turns around almost too slowly,
catching a glimpse of the explosion.
He's too close to get away quick enough
She knew all along

He runs and screams in slow motion,
hoping that the blaze won't catch him,
but as it does, he looks to the window
and gives his mother a final farewell
