Band History

When it all began...

It all started way back in the early 1990's after Matt Seymour (Keyboards), Ralph Tidmarsh (Drums & Vocals) and myself (Saxophone) had performed at a school assembly in Cambridge....we were 12 years old! Back then we were known as, the highly amusing, Storm Control! Sadly this concert would be the beginning and end of the band as we all left school within a year. I moved north to Scotland and started on the long journey of setting up my own band.

In July 1996...

I got together with Catriona Jackson (Guitars & Vocals) for a jamming session and decided, after an instant musical relationship grew, that we should form a band. I was now doing Piano & Vocals and after two months playing together, covering bands such as The Beatles, Bush, Radiohead and The Levellers, we decided to record a demo tape at Scotscores Studios in Berwickshire. It was in between takes that the subject of a name was brought up, and after many ideas were thrown out of the window, PReSeNCe seemed to capture the spirit of the band/duo. All was going sweetly until another demo tape later, Catriona had to move away, north to Fettes School in Edinburgh.

In March 2000...

I set up a jamming session with Adam Boobyer (Drum pad) & Thomas Huelin (Guitar). They seemed to be able to pick up the songs very quickly and were very enthusiastic by the end of the session.
After weeks of saying it would happen, we finally recorded 5 tracks. Two of mine, two of Tom's and 'Talk Tonight' by Oasis.
During the next 2 years in London I put PReSeNCe on the back burner and joined a band named Weave. The best moment was playing to a sell-out crowd of 400 at Sound Republic in Leicester Square. See Buy Now! for more details.

In September 2002...

I moved from London to Manchester and got together with Nat Yelverton (Guitar), to record some more songs. We recorded one song, "Entranced" in his bedroom studio and it was mixed within 2 hours.
Unfortunately our personalities didn't mesh too well and that was the only recording session to date.

In November 2004...

Various moves were made to start up a working, gigging 5-piece band. Matt Whitham (Cello) agreed to lend his expert services. Mark Clarke (Lyricist) has also agreed to lend his poetry to me so I can no doubt completely ruin it by editing it for my songs! And finally I'm meeting a girl called Samantha Taylor (Drummer) this week. Fingers crossed!!

In December 2004...

I moved back to Scotland to save for a proposed trip to the USA in March. Needless to say plans from November fell through. I do have plans for a live acoustic CD in the New Year though, showcasing every single one of my songs.

In December 2005...

I settled in Australia. I've been here for 2 months and will be staying for the foreseeable future. Now that I'm settled I can get everything together for the New Year!

In May 2008...

I moved back home to the UK, and back to Manchester. A lack of inspiration, and equipment in Australia, has lead me back home and I will be playing, composing and playing live again very soon.
